Behind the Scenes

Start: 1pm End: 3pm

Ages: Families with children ages 6 and up This workshop is an exciting experience that gives you and your family a once-in-a-lifetime chance to go behind closed doors at the Buffalo Zoo! Meet zookeepers as we visit three exhibit areas to learn the daily routine of preparing animal diets, observing behavior, training and more. Call 995-6128

Go ape over the Zoo's gorilla troop at this event. Features keeper talks, crafts,enrichment activities and games. Since recycling cell phones benefits gorillas in the Congo by decreasing the demand for coltan mining, each visitor who donates an old cell phone will receive a $1 discount off regular Zoo admission per phone. Eco-Challenge

Start: 10am End: 12pm

We all know the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling. Now, find out how our friends in the animal world do that everyday! From owls reusing nesting sites to millipedes in the rainforest recycling nutrients back into soil, we will discover examples of animals that recycle. Through hands-on activities, we will challenge ourselves to be more like the animals we encounter throughout the Zoo by finding unique ways to be "green," including vermiculturing (worm-composting), eating a no-waste lunch at school or using a rain catcher at home!
